Technical glitches caused major TDC mobile outage

The cause of last week’s mobile network outage, which left hundreds of thousands unable to make calls including to emergency number 112, was unknown for days but has now been attributed to technical failures, TDC Net announced after an investigation. This failure coincided with Banedanmark’s digital signaling issues that halted train services in some areas. TDC Net’s CEO Michel Jumeau apologized and stressed the need for telecoms to work together, especially during geopolitical tensions, to avoid misinterpretations of such events. The outage was due to an unsuccessful technical upgrade and a simultaneous software error on two separate network functions. Phones repeatedly tried to reconnect, causing network overload, and did not switch to other networks. They were recognized as connected but unable to make calls.
