Danish frigate in place in the Mediterranean
The Danish frigate Niels Juel has arrived in the Mediterranean, where it is ready in case of further need for evacuations in the Middle East, Danish Defence wrote Tuesday on its website. Just over a week ago, it was announced that Niels Juel would be moved from NATO’s naval force in the North Atlantic to the naval force in the eastern Mediterranean. “The task remains unchanged; to ensure NATO allies and deter potential adversaries against any aggression,” the Armed Forces wrote. “At the same time, Niels Juel is prepared to be deployed at short notice if the situation in the Middle East develops, and further evacuation efforts are needed.” When the frigate was moved, the Ministry of Defence said in a press release that such a development could be if unrest spread in the region. The ship has been resupplied at sea en route to the Mediterranean. /ritzau/
