Parties support private funding for new barracks

The Danish People’s Party advocates for the construction of modern barracks using public-private partnerships with pension funds. Defense spokesperson Alex Ahrendtsen suggests current barracks offer inadequate working conditions for soldiers and conscripts. While a recent government emergency package allocated 1.9 billion DKK for improvements, it is deemed insufficient for the required modernization. Multiple parties, including the Moderates, Social Democrats, Liberal Alliance, and Conservatives support the proposal. The insurance and pension industry, represented by Kent Damsgaard, shows readiness for the investment model, which could be beneficial for pension savings. If implemented, this would result in Denmark’s largest public-private partnership to date. The urgency is underscored by the fact that in the past ten months, the military received 42 official notices due to substandard conditions at various barracks.
