Leadership challenge in The New Conservatives
The New Conservatives are facing a potential leadership change as party member Carsten Kudsk announced on Facebook his intention to run for the chairmanship at the next annual meeting. Kudsk, a former interim Member of Parliament for the Danish People’s Party and 1st Deputy Mayor in Nyborg, switched to the New Conservatives in May. Current chairman Martin Henriksen, also a former MP for the Danish People’s Party, sees a chairmanship election as suboptimal and disruptive. Henriksen has held the position since April and believes the party, which is currently struggling to collect enough declarations to participate in the next parliamentary election, would benefit more from stability. The New Conservatives have seen several members leave, including party founder Pernille Vermund, with others joining different parties. The date for the 2025 annual meeting is not yet confirmed.
