Today’s news / Fund on solar roofs, highways slashed by Half
Solar panels should not only be located in fields across the country, but they should also be placed along motorways and on large roof areas. This was decided by a majority in Christiansborg in 2022 in a plan that set a goal to quadruple the production of solar and wind energy in Denmark. (Archive photo). Fund on solar roofs, highways slashed by Half

In Denmark, funds meant to increase solar and wind energy production have been halved from 355 million to 176.5 million Danish kroner. According to Jyllands-Posten, these resources were designated for installing solar panels on building rooftops and beside motorways, with an objective to position solar power closer to urban areas. However, by 2023, the fund saw significant reductions. The saved money was reallocated to a new agreement on state energy parks, and still, no expenditures from the original pool have been made for the intended solar projects, which are delayed until 2025. This decision has faced criticism for diminishing the role of urban areas in advancing solar energy. Climate Minister Lars Aagaard justified the cuts by explaining that the difficulty in scaling up solar installations led to a strategic shift in funding towards energy parks development.
