Danish embassy in Lebanon remains open
Despite the deteriorating security situation in Lebanon, Denmark’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has announced that the Danish embassy in Beirut will remain open for now. However, the Ministry advises against all travel to Lebanon and urges Danes in the country to leave. This statement comes after Sweden decided to temporarily close its embassy, relocating its staff to Cyprus until the end of August, possibly longer if the security situation does not improve. Denmark previously warned its citizens in Lebanon to depart after Israel signaled the risk of full-scale war with Hezbollah, which is based in Lebanon. Recently, Hezbollah’s military leader Fuad Shukr was killed in an attack attributed to Israel, although Israel has not officially claimed responsibility. Hezbollah’s leader Hassan Nasrallah has vowed revenge, indicating they are considering a response. The conflict between Hezbollah and Israel is longstanding, with Hezbollah established in 1982 when Israel invaded Southern Lebanon.
