Probe into Nordic Waste incurs million cost
The investigation into the major landslide near Randers, involving Nordic Waste, has cost the Danish state treasury nearly two million kroner so far, according to Berlingske. The state’s attorney, Kammeradvokaten, instructed in January to explore other firms’ liability beyond Nordic Waste for the environmental damage caused, and to determine whether Nordic Waste management or related individuals could be held responsible, has logged 737.2 hours amounting to over 1.9 million kroner. A completion date for the investigation has not been set, and total expected costs remain uncertain. Since the landslide was known in December last year, Nordic Waste handed the responsibility to Randers Municipality, which anticipates spending between 468.2 and 663.4 million kroner on mitigation, with a portion covered by a 205 million kroner allocation from the Parliament. Despite Minister Magnus Heunicke’s initial refusal of additional funding, Randers’ Mayor Torben Hansen suggests recent financial insights may shift this stance.
