Demos in various cities over hospital explosion
An explosion at the al-Ahli Arab hospital in Gaza City, that killed hundreds of people has sent pro-Palestinian protesters onto the streets in several parts of the world. It was not immediately clear who was behind the deadly explosion. Hamas believes it was an Israeli airstrike that hit the hospital, while Israel accuses a faulty Islamic Jihad missile of being behind it.
- In the Libyan capital, Tripoli, hundreds of protesters of all ages took to the streets on Tuesday evening, reporters from the AFP news agency said.
- In Lebanon, pro-Palestinian protesters gathered in the streets of the capital, Beirut, reports the BBC. Images on social media show protesters hoisting the Palestinian flag at the US embassy, located in the northern suburb of Aukar.
- In Iran’s capital, Tehran, hundreds of protesters gathered in front of the French and British embassies, according to an AFP correspondent. “Death to France and England,” chants were heard among the protesters, according to AFP.
- Demonstrations were also reported at Israeli or Western embassies or consulates in Turkey, Tunisia and Jordan.
- In Denmark, late on Tuesday evening, about 300 people gathered in front of Odense Railway Station Centre for a demonstration. Some of them had brought Palestinian flags, according to TV 2. Early Wednesday morning, the Funen Police said the demonstration went peacefully and ended shortly after midnight. Later on Wednesday there was a further demonstration in Aarhus West, with over 500 marching to chants such as “Boycott Israel”, “Free Palestine” and “Stop Israeli apartheid. /ritzau/
