DK extra border controls to stop
The temporary tightened border controls at Denmark’s borders will not be extended when they expire at midnight between 22 and 23 August, the Danish National Police wrote Tuesday in a press release. The decision to relax the controls comes because the Danish Security and Intelligence Service (PET) does not assess that the security situation requires that efforts be maintained. The controls came into force on August 3 and have been extended several times. The introduction of tightened border controls was due to the increased risk that has arisen in connection with Koran burnings in Denmark. “The police and PET continue to keep a close eye on the current security situation, and if the situation warrants, we are ready to launch initiatives to protect the country’s security,” says Peter Ekebjærg, Chief Police Inspector in the Danish National Police. /ritzau/
