DK takes 200 quota refugees
For the fourth year in a row, Denmark is taking in 200 quota refugees. This time they come from Rwanda, Eritrea and Afghanistan, according to the Ministry of Immigration and Integration in a press release. In 2020, 2021 and 2022, 200 quota refugees were taken from Rwanda. There is a particular focus on women and children, the release said. Those chosen are to be quota refugees from refugee camps in Rwanda as well as Eritrean and Afghan refugees who have fled to neighbouring countries. Quota refugees are refugees that countries receive through the UN refugee system. They are often described as the particularly vulnerable, and vulnerable refugees. Immigration and Integration Minister Kaare Dybvad Bek believes that it is a question of limiting the number of “irregular asylum seekers who find their way here through cynical people smugglers”. He considers the 200 quota refugees appropriate. /ritzau/
