DK takes in fewer quota refugees than promised
Over the past three years, Denmark has received far fewer quota refugees than the 200 a year it agreed to, according to figures from the Immigration Service, obtained by Politiken. In 2019, the previous Social Democratic government decided to resume taking in quota refugees. The Minister for Immigration and Integration under the previous government, Inger Støjberg, had stopped this in 2016. This meant that Denmark committed to 31 quota refugees in 2019 and 200 a year in subsequent years. According to tye United Nations High Commission for Refugees, Denmark has set such narrow criteria that it is not really possible for the organisation to find enough refugees. “With so many refugees around the world desperately in need of a quota place, the UNHCR appeals to Denmark to resettle quota refugees from more countries and expand its selection criteria.” Elisabeth Arnsdorf Haslund, regional spokesperson for UNHCR in the Nordic and Baltic countries, told Politiken. Politiken writes that 31 quota refugees arrived in 2019 and 200 in 2020. But only 159 came on the quota in 2021 and none on the 2022 quota. This means that only 390 out of 631 promised have arrived. /ritzau/
