DMI weather warning
On Wednesday, The Danish Meteorological Institute (DMI) has issued a warning of “very dangerous weather” with increased water levels in the southern part of the Little Belt, the Western part of the Baltic Sea, and the area around Køge Bay. “The weather situation is very serious. Especially since winds will blow for a long period from an easterly direction. It is unusual for high winds to blow for so long from that direction. And because we are getting stormy gales, the situation is serious,” Duty Meteorologist Jesper Eriksen at DMI, told DR.
In the period from Wednesday until Sunday, the weather is characterised by a high pressure over northern Scandinavia and an area of lower pressure west and south of Denmark. This results in a prolonged period of strong easterly winds, DMI says. During Thursday, winds are expected to pick up to gale strength, and on Friday it may rise to a strong gale. Winds are expected to pick up until Friday night. In the southeastern part of the country and in parts of East Jutland, gale force winds with gusts of severe gale force expected from Friday afternoon or evening until Saturday night. /ritzau/
