Andersen and Earth’s core feature on new banknotes

Denmark and Greenland will feature prominent figures and their achievements on their new banknotes. The front will display fairy tales with H.C. Andersen, astronomical advancements with Tycho Brahe, the earth’s core with seismologist Inge Lehmann, and the Thule expedition with participant Arnarulunnguaq, while the back will maintain a consistent sea theme. These internationally recognized personalities were chosen for their courage, curiosity, and dedication, and they collectively symbolize a deeper understanding of the world. The new series, replacing the 2009 series, encompasses 50-, 100-, 200-, and 500-krone banknotes, available from 2028-29. The selection was based on a report based on proposals, research, educational institutions’ input, and questionnaire responses, with H.C. Andersen scoring the highest public approval. The inclusion of Inge Lehmann emphasizes a significant scientific achievement, whereas Arnarulunnguaq is celebrated for her essential knowledge and contribution to successful Arctic expeditions.
