Capital region faces huge tax bill after revaluations
The Capital Region of Denmark is facing a potential increase of 145 million Danish kroner in its annual property coverage tax due to new valuations of properties including major hospitals like Rigshospitalet and Bispebjerg Hospital. This could double the current tax payment, as revealed in a memo reviewed by Berlingske. The increase also entails a back payment for 2023 and 2024. The increase is due to a reclassification of the region’s buildings from ‘warehouse, logistics, and industry’ to ‘office, retail, etc.’ by the Valuation Agency. Christoffer Buster Reinhardt, chairman of the Region’s health committee, has called the situation outrageous, arguing that the money would have to be taken directly from patient care and efforts like reducing waitlists. Both the Danish Regions and the Capital Region are attempting to change the status of the buildings in the valuation system. The final assessment of the properties is expected in the autumn.
