August sets new tourist overnight record
Denmark experienced a record-breaking number of overnight stays by tourists in August, exceeding 10.3 million across various accommodations. This figure represents the highest since records started in 2004, beating the previous August 2022 record by about 100,000. The data, which includes both Danish and foreign tourists and embraces stays in hotels, hostels, holiday centers, and marinas, suggests a prosperous tourism industry. The rise in stays is consistent throughout the year, with weather influencing natural accommodations earlier in the summer. Despite an increase of 200,000 foreign tourist overnights in the summer months, there was a concerning decrease in domestic overnights by approximately 195,000. Lars Bertolt Winther calls for targeted actions to sustain domestic tourist numbers.
