Sanjay Shah receives 12-year sentence

Sanjay Shah, a 54-year-old British national, was sentenced to 12 years in prison for a billion-kroner fraud against the Danish treasury. The verdict was delivered on Thursday in Glostrup Court. In addition to his prison sentence, Shah was expelled from Denmark, banned from business management, and had over 7 billion kroner confiscated. Drawing on his central role in a meticulously planned crime, the court emphasized the nature and extent of the legal violation over three years. Shah, who appeared in a Santa hat but removed it before the sentencing, has insisted on his innocence, characterizing his actions as exploiting loopholes in tax legislation. The companies he controlled, the Solo Group, wrongly claimed tax refunds on dividends without having paid any dividends or taxes. Shah immediately appealed the decision, seeking acquittal or a lighter sentence.
