Denmark tightens control on Temu products
Danish Minister for Industry, Morten Bødskov, has instructed the Safety Authority “to intensify actions against illegal products on online platforms” like Temu. Bødskov noted the risk posed by potentially harmful goods sold to Danes, including children, on foreign online platforms. To curb this, AI tools will be used to scan platforms for illegal and dangerous products. Additionally, a task force is formed to jointly fight the sale of hazardous items, and an information campaign will be launched for consumers. Items of concern include “toxic toys, hazardous electronics, and harmful kitchen utensils”. The Consumers’ Council Think recently advised against buying Halloween items from non-European platforms citing the lack of protection that EU standards provide. Both Temu and Shein, which are popular in Denmark, supply goods not produced under the same regulations and control as Danish and European items.
