Putin denies plans to invade Poland and Latvia
Russian President Vladimir Putin, in an interview with American journalist Tucker Carlson, has dismissed the notion that Russia plans to invade Poland or Latvia, stating this would only occur if Poland attacked Russia. He affirmed Russia has no interests in Poland, Latvia, or elsewhere, rejecting the idea of invasion as completely excluded. The interview aired Thursday at midnight Danish time and marks the first instance of a Western journalist interviewing Putin since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in February 2022. Putin declared the prospect of a Russian defeat in Ukraine as ‘impossible,’ defiantly noting such an event will never take place. Following the imposition of strict rules against reporting on Russia’s actions in Ukraine and risks of facing 15 years in jail, many Western journalists left Russia. Russia describes its February 2022 actions in Ukraine as a ‘special military operation.’
