Hollywood strike affects Hasbro revenue

The revenue for Hasbro’s entertainment division dropped 31% to roughly $660 million in 2023 following a Hollywood strike involving actors and scriptwriters. The strikes significantly impacted Hasbro’s earnings, especially in the third and fourth quarters with declines of 42% and 49% respectively. The actors’ strike, starting in July and ending with a ratified agreement in November, overlapped with scriptwriters’ strikes which resolved in October. Despite a 15% dip in total revenue, amounting to $5 billion, video game licensing, including ‘Baldur’s Gate 3’ and ‘Monopoly Go!’ provided a positive impact. Additionally, Hasbro finalized the sale of production company eOne to Lionsgate for $500 million in December.
