Debate on New Organ Donation Law

Louise Brown, the health spokesperson for the Liberal Alliance, opposes the government’s proposal for a presumed consent organ donation system, arguing for individual bodily ownership rather than state control. Though supportive of increasing organ donations, she rejects the concept of being born an organ donor and having to opt-out. Experts visiting the parliamentary ethics committee advised against this model, criticizing the lack of government communication. Conservative Mette Abildgaard points out potential protest opt-outs and burdens left on the deceased’s family. Susie Jessen from the Danmarksdemokraterne party calls for simpler ways to consent, such as through driver’s licenses. Minister Sophie Løhde defends the proposal, stating that it respects self-determination and that relatives will be consulted if no decision exists in the donation registry.
