Adopted expected exempt from work duty by July

The Danish government plans to introduce legislation in April to exempt internationally adopted individuals from a controversial work duty law. Danish People’s Party employment spokesperson Nick Zimmermann informed after a meeting with Employment Minister Ane Halsboe-Jørgensen. The exemption is expected to be in place before the work duty law becomes effective on July 1, 2025. The meeting, also attended by other parties, followed criticism of the minister when it was revealed that adopted individuals were subject to work duty. Halsboe-Jørgensen apologized and committed to investigating exemptions for specific groups, including children of Danish diplomats and surrogate children born abroad. An inquiry in collaboration with the Ministry of Justice to identify other affected citizens is planned, but no further details or timeline have been provided. Zimmermann criticized the slow progress.
