Many shelters untended for 20 years

Lars Robetje, vice-chairman of Danske Beredskaber, warns about the high costs of preparing public shelters in Denmark for use, with many not maintained for decades. About 61% of the Danish population could be accommodated in such shelters, but they lack maintenance, inventory, and have been sealed. Lars Robetje, also the director of Roskilde Fire Service, mentions 27 concrete cover graves made during WWII, left unattended for 20 years. Maintenance funding was removed following a political decision in the 2000s, diminishing readiness. The shelters’ readiness involves significant expenses and it’s questioned if it’s the best use of funds, considering other threats like hybrid warfare impacting power and data systems.
