New ministers join Denmark’s largest cabinet
Denmark’s SVM government expands to a record 25 ministers with Thursday’s cabinet reshuffle. Copenhagen’s Mayor, Sophie Hæstorp Andersen of the Social Democrats, steps in as the Minister for Social Affairs and Housing. Rasmus Stoklund, also of the Social Democrats, takes over the role of Tax Minister. Caroline Stage Olsen becomes the Minister for Digitalization and Venstre’s political spokesperson Torsten Schack Pedersen becomes Minister for Emergency Management. Marie Bjerre transitions to being the new Minister for European Affairs, and the Equality portfolio is moved under the Minister for the Environment, Magnus Heunicke. The reshuffle also involves the creation of a separate Ministry for the Elderly, with Mette Kierkgaard remaining as the Minister for the Elderly. Andersen is known for her focus on the most vulnerable, and Pedersen has a history in various spokesperson roles since joining the Folketing for Venstre in 2005.
