Anonymous donor gifts zoo 17m for chimpanzee habitat

Copenhagen Zoo has received a 17 million kroner donation from an anonymous source for a new chimpanzee enclosure. The zoo’s director, Mads Frost Bertelsen, highlighted the need for more space for the primates to explore different seasons. The forthcoming habitat will allow chimpanzees to indulge in natural behaviors like rummaging through leaves and enjoying the weather. This development is essential for the zoo to keep chimpanzees. The design is ready, and construction will commence on March 18, aiming for a fall completion. The nine chimpanzees at the zoo form a unique group compared to wild ones in Africa. Future group dynamics will be aligned with international breeding programs. Sharing 99% of our DNA, chimpanzees vary in weight and can live over 40 years.
