EU urges restraint to prevent conflict escalation
In light of recent attacks, EU leaders at a summit have called for all parties in the Middle East to show ‘utmost restraint’ to avoid escalating the conflict, fearing it could spiral into a regional war. The EU condemned Iran’s attacks on Israel and stressed the necessity of bringing stability to the region. Iran had launched around 300 drones and missiles towards Israel as retaliation for a presumed Israeli air strike on the Iranian consulate in Damascus on April 1, killing seven, including two high-ranking generals. The EU Council urged Iran and its allies to cease all attacks and reiterated calls for restraint from all sides. Despite EU’s calls for calm, Israel seems poised to respond to Iran’s aggression, with British Foreign Secretary stating that Israel had ‘clearly decided’ to retaliate, according to Reuters.
