Starting next year, public transport passengers can check in children, bicycles, and dogs using the app version of the Rejsekort travel card, in use since September, as announced by Metroselskabet. The app has seen 1.7 million trips registered in Copenhagen’s metro alone, becoming most popular among metro users. Eva Lind, Metroselskabet’s Commercial Manager, highlighted that the app simplifies travel by allowing check-ins directly on mobile phones, vital on busy routes. While Rejsekort was first available only as a physical card, many now use the digital option partially or entirely. Despite some friction with data protection authorities ensuring compliance with regulations, future plans may allow payment solely via credit card, according to Tina Hørbye Christensen of Rejsekort & Rejseplan, contingent on the Rejsekort system’s flawless operation.
