Green tripartite ensures 2030 goal with deal
A new political agreement presented by the green tripartite on Monday evening promises significant CO2 reductions, ensuring the achievement of Denmark’s target of a 70% reduction in greenhouse gases by 2030. The accord involves a combination of measures including a livestock levy, reduced fertilizer use, afforestation, and the withdrawal of peatland soils. These initiatives are expected to result in a reduction of 1.8 million tons of CO2 by 2030, rising to 3.3 million tons by 2035. The agreement also includes commitments to the binding reduction target for the land and forestry sector of 55-65% by 2030 relative to 1990 levels. Tax Minister Jeppe Bruus cites substantial emissions reductions in the industry following a related 2022 agreement. Additional potential CO2 reductions amounting to 1.8 – 2.6 million tons by 2030 are anticipated through accelerated withdrawal of peatland soils, the application of pyrolysis, and actions based on the Green Area Fund.
