Denmark backs NATO’s military fund for Ukraine

Denmark supports the creation of a NATO-led mechanism to provide military support to Ukraine, according to Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen. The initiative was discussed at a meeting of NATO foreign ministers in Brussels. Rasmussen emphasized the importance of long-term and sustainable assistance within a NATO framework to not only push back Russian forces but allow Ukraine to develop a defense system compatible with NATO standards, potentially paving the way for full NATO membership. While Denmark’s contribution to Ukraine is already significant relative to its size, detailed financial commitments remain unspecified. NATO is considering taking control over the Ramstein group, which has so far coordinated military support to Ukraine led by the US. Jens Stoltenberg, NATO Secretary-General, acknowledges the gravity of the situation in Ukraine and the need to escalate and anchor support within NATO, though he did not confirm details of the proposal.
