Israel strikes targets in Lebanon amid ceasefire
Israel is attacking targets in Lebanon following a Hezbollah assault on an Israeli military post in a contested area, despite an ongoing ceasefire. The scale and specifics of the Israeli response were not disclosed. Israeli Finance Minister Smotrich and Prime Minister Netanyahu promised a strong retaliation against Hezbollah, which they accused of a severe error. Hezbollah admitted responsibility for the assault on Israeli positions at Har Dov, the first such claim since the ceasefire started on November 27, which had significantly reduced fighting. The Israeli military confirmed no injuries from the attack. Contradictory to Lebanon’s accusations of Israel breaching the truce, the US stated that the ceasefire appears generally intact.
