Ørsted buys large Tesla battery storage
Danish energy company Ørsted has purchased a sizeable battery storage from Tesla, with a capacity of 600 megawatt-hours, to address the issue of inconsistent wind turbine electricity production. To be located by the Hornsea 3 wind farm off the coast of Norfolk, eastern England, it will be one of the largest in Europe. The battery will store excess energy produced and supply it during high electricity demand periods, thereby stabilizing prices and supply-demand balance. This investment, expected to go operational by the end of 2026, is a part of Ørsted’s future energy storage investment plans in the UK. Hornsea 3, yet to be constructed, will have a capacity of over 2.8 gigawatts upon completion.
