Leisure spending rises in Danish July
In July, Danes spent more on fun, with bar and pub spending up 20% and entertainment events like concerts and theater seeing a 50% hike in real consumption compared to last year. Louise Aggerstrøm Hansen from Danske Bank links part of this increase to more of the Roskilde Festival occurring in July. Wages are rising substantially more than prices, providing more disposable income than during the 2022 inflation surge. Hansen notes the potential for even higher spending but cites the need to rebuild savings and concerns over global instability as restraining factors. Consumer spending sans energy rose 1% in July year-on-year, suggesting a trend of high leisure spending prioritization, with expectations for continued growth into autumn.
