Copenhagen aims for sustainable olympics

Copenhagen’s dreams of hosting the Olympic Games are alive with the recent budget agreement for 2025 setting aside 500,000 DKK for a preliminary study into the possibility of bidding to host the Olympics and specifically the Youth Olympics. According to the city’s press release, Culture and Leisure Mayor Mia Nyegaard envisions hosting the smallest and most sustainable Olympics ever. The earliest Copenhagen could host the Olympics is 2036, with the Youth Olympics possibly as early as 2030. Dansk industri (DI) also supports the bid, highlighting the potential economic boost and tourism benefits. At the most recent Olympics and Paralympics in Paris, Danish athletes secured a total of 19 medals, including four golds.
