Royal couple arrives in Sweden amid salutes

Denmark’s Queen Mary and King Frederik have officially started their first state visit as a royal couple, arriving in Stockholm in a gilded rowboat ‘Vasaorden’. They were received by the Swedish King Carl Gustaf and Queen Silvia, with crowds waving Danish flags. Both monarchs inspected a grenadier company, while the queens observed. The Danish godchildren, Princess Estelle and Prince Oscar, children of Crown Princess Victoria and Prince Daniel, greeted them with flags. Over two days, the visit will include events focused in Stockholm. Following the January throne succession, the visit reflects a tradition dating back to 1947. The official relationship between King Frederik and Crown Princess Victoria has changed as she must now observe protocols such as bowing to the king.
