Police and PET End Nord Stream Blast Probe
Copenhagen Police and the Danish Security and Intelligence Service (PET) have discontinued their joint investigation into the explosions of the Nord Stream gas pipelines, citing a lack of sufficient grounds to pursue a criminal case. Despite determining that the gas pipelines were deliberately sabotaged, the authorities concluded there is not enough basis for criminal proceedings in Denmark. The police mention they are unable to provide further comments or interviews on the investigation’s specifics. The threat assessment continues, with measures regularly implemented to protect Denmark’s critical infrastructure. Following Sweden’s suspension of their investigation on February 7, due to an inability to resolve the case, Denmark’s Justice Minister Peter Hummelgaard also declines to elaborate on why the criminal investigation was ended. Explosions occurred at Nord Stream 2 on September 26, 2022, with subsequent eruptions spotted at Nord Stream 1, creating sizable holes in the pipelines and resulting in gas leakage on the Baltic Sea surface.
