Danish parties fund cattle methane reduction
Danish Parliament backs a deal allocating funds to reduce methane emissions from cattle digestion, involving political parties. Initiatives include methane-reducing feed to decrease CO2 emissions, with plans to start before the summer holiday contingent on an agriculture climate solution. The aim is an 8% methane cut by January 2025, with aspirations to increase the reduction to 30 percent. Investment of DKK 146 million in 2024 supports the methane-reducing feed from 2025. Animal welfare effects will be monitored. Promotion of organic farming includes DKK 10.9 million annually to the Organic Agriculture Innovation Center, DKK 36.4 million to the Organic Farming Fund, and DKK 16.3 million for organic marketing in 2025. Additionally, DKK 30 million per year is reserved for plant-based food initiatives for 2025-26. Other measures involve pollution control, clean drinking water, and a temporary diesel tax relief.
