Swedish coast guard leaves Chinese ship in Kattegat
The Swedish Coast Guard has abandoned the Chinese ship ‘Yi Peng 3′ in the Kattegat after it remained stationary for three weeks. Surveillance has shifted to a joint effort with Danish and German authorities using technical means. The vessel had previously navigated past two data cables in the Baltic Sea that were later found damaged and had also disabled its radio signal for nearly eight hours. For weeks, Danish defense forces, along with Swedish and German entities, surrounded the ship. Swedish police are investigating the cable breaks as possible sabotage in the Swedish economic zone. China has stated through Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning a willingness to cooperate in the investigation. However, the extent of China’s cooperation is still unclear. Meanwhile, the Danish Defence Command does not have new updates on their forces’ proximity to the Chinese vessel.
