Danish PM labels slain Hamas chief ‘Hardcore Terrorist’
European Union leaders gathered in Brussels for a summit when news broke of the killing of Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar by Israeli soldiers in Gaza. Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen, present at the summit, stated, ‘the killed Hamas leader, an architect of attacks on Israel, is a hardcore terrorist, making it difficult to lament his death.’ The summit’s conclusions called for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and Lebanon, and demanded Hamas release all hostages. Following Sinwar’s death, U.S. President Joe Biden urged Hamas to disarm and end the conflict. EU leaders also condemned Iran’s missile attack on Israel while reiterating Israel’s right to self-defense and expressed concern about a broader regional war. The EU reaffirmed its commitment to a two-state solution and proposed an international peace conference as soon as possible.
