Israeli air strike mistakenly hits aid workers

Herzi Halevi, Israeli army Chief of Staff, acknowledged that a deadly air strike on World Central Kitchen (WCK) workers in Deir al-Balah was a ‘misidentification’. In a video, he clarified the attack wasn’t intentional. Seven WCK members were killed, including workers from Britain, Australia, Poland, one with dual American-Canadian citizenship, and a Palestinian driver. The convoy had just delivered humanitarian aid and was in armored vehicles marked with WCK logos, in an area believed to be conflict-free. The route had been coordinated with Israeli forces. WCK’s Erin Gore condemned the strike as ‘unforgivable,’ stressing the impact on humanitarian operations. Following the incident, WCK paused its mission in the region. Previously, WCK provided over 42 million meals in the Gaza Strip in 175 days.
