Rise in Cases of Unauthorized handiwork

The Danish Safety Authority reported a significant increase in unauthorized handiwork cases, with 226 incidents in 2023 compared to 94 in 2020. Evy Boe Madsen of the Safety Authority warns that non-authorized work, especially in electricity or gas, can lead to dangerous situations like electrical shocks or gas leaks. Consumers bear the responsibility for their installations and should ensure they hire authorized craftsmen, checking the authority’s registration list beforehand, she says. Specific authorization is necessary for certain electrical, plumbing, sewer, and gas work. In 2023, the Safety Authority made police reports against 181 firms for unauthorized craftwork, reinforcing their commitment to monitoring the market and addressing illegal practices.
