Greenland leaders slam Trump’s conduct

The chairpersons of all five parties elected in Greenland’s recent parliamentary elections have called President Donald Trump’s behavior unacceptable. Following Trump’s statement on Thursday where he entertained the idea that Greenland may become part of the US, the leaders expressed their united disagreement with such annexation talks. They emphasized that Greenland will continue to work through diplomatic channels according to international laws. Trump did not use the word ‘annexation’ but responded affirmatively when asked about it, citing international security, and suggested negotiating a deal for Greenland. Greenland’s interim government leader Múte B. Egede called for a sharper response to Trump’s disrespect. Danish Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen stated Trump does not have the right to annex Greenland.
