Swimming advised against at Kolding Fjord beach
After a cloudburst in Kolding, a nearby sewer overflowed, leading to a swimming ban at the popular Rebæk Beach. Kolding Municipality’s environmental chief Merete Valbak noted the heightened risk of E. coli bacteria following such weather events. It typically takes two days for the water to clear, but a longer waiting time is expected for Rebæk Beach. The latest water tests will take two days to yield results, and the red flag indicating unsafe conditions will remain until subsequent tests show safe levels. This is not the first instance of poor water quality this summer due to heavy rains across Danish beaches, including areas in Copenhagen and Aarhus. The concern is potential bacterial infections from increased E. coli levels. The municipality is working on separating the sewer systems to avoid such issues in the future. The cloudburst in Kolding resulted in 18.3 millimeters of rain, qualifying as a cloudburst by meteorological standards.
