PM announces health initiative later this year
During her speech at the regional summit in Aarhus, Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen declared the government will present a health proposal later this year, following recommendations from the Health Structure Commission expected in June. Frederiksen posited two crucial goals for the future health system: First, maximizing Danes’ longevity with minimal illness, and second, ensuring equitable access to healthcare without leaving anyone behind, which she indicates is currently not the case due to disparities linked to work life, family background, and living conditions. She resisted divulging details but emphasized the focus on local health systems. The commission may discuss the future of regions, a topic of internal government debate. Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen previously suggested abolishing regional entities, but Frederiksen deferred the stance on regions until the commission’s report.
