Many toys from online marketplaces may be dangerous
The European toy industry organization TIE warns that a significant portion of toys sold on online platforms like Temu, Wish, and Amazon could be hazardous, with some posing life-threatening risks for children. Their investigation showed that 80% of over 100 non-branded toys purchased did not meet EU safety regulations. Safety risks included easily breakable teething rings and slime with boron levels far exceeding legal limits. It’s a widespread issue among online marketplaces, especially those selling Chinese products to European consumers. Current legislation doesn’t hold platforms like Amazon and Temu accountable for ensuring that the products they sell comply with EU standards. TIE and Dansk Erhverv demand tighter regulations, arguing that online marketplaces should have the same responsibilities as importers. Temu responded by emphasizing its high standards for quality and safety, stating it conducts random checks and promptly removes non-compliant products.
