Egypt agrees to open border
Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi has agreed to open the Rafah border crossing that separates Egypt and the Palestinian Gaza Strip enclave, President Biden announced on Wednesday evening. “Sisi really deserves some credit because he has been very accommodating,” Biden said. The border will be temporarily opened so that 20 trucks carrying aid can reach civilians living in the Gaza Strip. National Security Adviser to the US president John Kirby said the White House hoped a similar deal would bring about more relief for needy civilians in the Gaza Strip. The Egyptian presidential office confirmed late Wednesday night that al-Sisi and Biden had discussed by phone how to get aid to civilians in the Gaza Strip faster. /ritzau/Reuters/
