EU – China investigation
The European Commission Wednesday began its investigation into possible Chinese state aid to electric car manufacturers, according to a press release from the European Commission. “The electric car sector has huge potential for Europe’s future competitiveness. Manufacturers invest and innovate to achieve its full potential,” Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said, adding “If we find evidence that their forces are being hampered by market distortions and unfair competition, we will act.” The European car industry is challenged by China, which is taking ever larger market shares when it comes to electric cars. It affects the European car industry in the EU countries of Germany, France and Italy. Therefore, there is increasing pressure on the European Commission to find solutions. The study was introduced in September when von der Leyen delivered her so-called State of the Union address. /ritzau/
