EU Court accepts SAS investment
The European Commission’s approval of the Swedish and Danish states’ support package to SAS during the Covid pandemic was not deemed illegal, according to a ruling from the EU court on Wednesday. Like other airlines, SAS required capital when travel restrictions were enforced globally during the coronavirus pandemic. The Danish and Swedish governments intervened, providing SAS with capital injections amounting to billions of kroner. This was executed through the purchase of shares and bonds from SAS. In total, the two states’ contributions amounted to 833 million euros, or more than six billion kroner. The European Commission initially approved this action in 2020. However, it was later rescinded by the European Commission in the spring, leading to the case being brought before the European Court of Justice. /ritzau/
