EU – diamonds
The world’s largest diamond mining company, Russian PJSC Alrosa, and its chief executive were placed on the EU’s sanctions list on Wednesday, the European Council writes in a press release. The company is owned by the Russian state and accounts for over 90 percent of Russia’s diamond production. “This is part of our coordinated efforts at the G7 level to deprive Russia of this important source of revenue,” EU Foreign policy chief Josep Borrell wrote on X. Alrosa is considered by the EU, along with its chief executive, Pavel Alexeyevich Marinchev, to be helping to undermine and threaten Ukraine’s territorial integrity and independence, as well as being a major contributor to the Russian state’s earnings. /ritzau/
