If elected, he will leave the post of President of the European Union, he announced in an interview with the Belgian newspaper De Standaard. “The European Council will be able to plan and appoint my successor at the end of June or the beginning of July,” Michel told the newspaper. The President of the EU is elected by the EU Heads of State or Government for a term of two and a half years. You can be re-elected once, which Michel was in 2019.
