A group of cybercriminals, believed to be behind high-profile attacks worth millions of euros, were arrested in Ukraine on Tuesday, according to the EU’s law enforcement agency, Europol. The group is part of a network that according to the agency is behind a series of ransomware attacks against organisations in 71 countries. In a ransomware attack, data and systems are held hostage. They are encrypted and made inaccessible, and the perpetrators then demand a ransom to unlock them. A 32-year-old group leader and four other members have been arrested. Over 20 investigators from Norway, France, Germany, and the USA were dispatched to Ukraine’s capital, Kyiv, to assist Ukrainian police. /ritzau/
