Ex-Trump lawyer prepared to testify
Donald Trump’s former lawyer Sidney Powell pleaded guilty Thursday to charges of election interference in the state of Georgia in 2020, according to Reuters and the New York Times. Powell, 68, has pleaded guilty to six counts of attempting to influence the outcome of the election. She has also agreed to testify against Trump and other defendants if necessary. She has been sentenced to a six years suspended sentence, The New York Times writes – a somewhat lighter sentence than if she had been convicted after a trial. Powell must also pay a $6,000 fine and pay another $2,700 to Georgia. She is also required to write an apology letter “to the citizens of the state of Georgia,” according to The New York Times. Until Thursday, Powell had pleaded not guilty to the charges. /ritzau/
